Born Vaclav Divis but known as Vaclav/James Davis after moving to North Dakota. According to the North Dakota Dept. of Health's Public Death Index, Vaclav Davis died in Sargent County on October 28 1940, aged 94 years. Presumably buried with his wife in St. Charles Cemetery. Married Anna Okrina (apparently as his second wife). They immigrated to the United States with their children aboard the SS Munchen , which arrived in Baltimore, Maryland from Bremen, Germany on June 18, 1889. The ship manifest lists them as: Wenzel Diwisch, 42; Anna, 24; Antonia, 16; Hermine, 8; Franziska, 8; Christina, 6; Joseph, 2; and Maria, 9 months. Her mother and siblings also immigrated on the same ship. 1900 census (Skull Creek Township, Butler County, Nebr.): Vaclav Devis (born Oct 1846 Bohemia, farmer,married 30 years), Anna (wife, May 1866 Bohemia, married 15 years, mother of 8 children, all living), Joseph (son, Feb 1886 Bohemia, at school), Marie (daughter, June 1887 Bohemia, at school), Karel (son, June 1889 Nebr., at school), Anna (daughter, June 1891 Nebr., at school), James (son, March 1894 Nebr., at school), Alois (son, June 1896, Nebr.), Cristena (daughter, June 1883 Bohemia, servant). 1910 census (Denver Township, Sargent County, North Dakota): Vaclav Davis (60, Bohemia, farmer), Anna (wife, 45, Bohemia, married 28 years, mother of 10 children, 9 living), James (son, 18, Nebr., laborer), Tealey (daughter, 6, Nebr.), [no name on census] (daughter, 3, Nebr.), [no name on census] (daughter, 1, Nebr.), Anna (daughter, 18, Nebr.), Joseph (son, 27, Bohemia, farmer), Charles (son, 20, Nebr., laborer), and [Chadbyeson?] (son, 10, Nebr.). 1915 census (Dover Township, Sargent County, North Dakota): Vaclav Davis (64), Charley (25), Anna (23), Tillie (10), Minnie (8), Louis (female, 6). 1920 census (Denver Township, Sargent County, North Dakota); James Davis (65, Austria (Bohemia), widower, farmer), Charlie (son, 28, Nebr., laborer), Minnie (daughter, 13, North Dakota), Louise (daughter, 11, North Dakota).
