Divis, pioneer resident of this community passed away at his home in west Brainard, early Saturday morning, June 19, after an illness of 10 weeks due to infirmities of advanced age. Funeral services were held on Tuesday morning from the Holesovsky Funeral Home to Holy Trinity church at 9:00 o’clock. Rt. Rev. Msgr. Klein celebrated the requiem Mass, and music was by the church choir. Interment was in the Holy Trinity cemetery with six grandsons as pallbearers: Joseph Divis of Wahoo; Albert Divis of Colon; Joseph Divis Jr. of Bee; Edward Divis, Joseph Pekarek and Roman Pekarek all of Brainard. Joseph Matej Divis, son of Matej Divis and Katerina Kriz, was born March 17, 1860 at Hrotovec, Czechoslovakia, and grew to manhood there. His marriage to Frantiska Horky took place in that village on Nov. 20, 1882, and shortly afterward came to America, locating on a farm southeast of Brainard where they resided until retiring in 1913. Five children were born to the couple, three of whom, with their mother, preceded Mr. Divis in death. A son, Augustine, passed away in infancy in 1891, a son Frank in 1918, and a daughter Mrs. Cecilia (Anton W.) Pekarek in 1930. Mrs. Divis passed on in 1928. Surviving Mr. Divis are a son Joseph A. Divis of Bee and a daughter Mrs. Bessie (Edward R.) Sloup of Brainard with whom he had made his home. Fifteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren also survive. Mr. Divis was a lifelong Catholic, and a long time member of Holy Trinity parish. Among the relatives attending the funeral were Mrs. Alvin Dockweiler of Wahoo and her daughter Mrs. Houdek of Colon. ___ CARD OF THANKS We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who assisted us in any way or extended us sympathy in our bereavement.
