Bio

James Edward Chastain October 11, 1940 - August 21, 2020 It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of James Chastain of both Lewisville and Corinth TX. He will lovingly be remembered by his wife of 24 years, Jo Chastain; Renee Chastain, daughter, Kim Valerga, stepdaughter (Rick Valerga), Mathew Chastain, son, (Amanda Chastain), and Mark Chastain, son (Kelli Chastain); grandchildren: Shai (James Hill), Sydney, Storie, Terran, Quinn, Sam, Blake, and Eric; great grandchildren: Caroline, Carsen, and Casen; Kathryn Black, sister; preceded in death by: Sam and Vivian Chastain, parents, Anne Chastain, spouse, Kristopher Ragan, stepson; as well as Michelle and Juan Martinez, niece and nephew-in-law; grand nieces, Ana, Daniela, and Gabriela. In addition, many cousins and friends close enough to be siblings in his heart. James was born in Denton TX, when it was a one stoplight town. He remained close friends with his elementary and high school friends throughout his 79 years. James was a recipient of a highly coveted scholarship, which allowed him to participate in the initial US space launches and John Glenn's first round the world mission. James graduated from UNT with two degrees, Bachelors in Science and Arts. He became a coach for all sports in both HS and JHS in West Texas, Maryland, and Lake Dallas. James became an award winning realtor for over 35 years, however, he continued to identify himself as a teacher and coach. James loved the communities in which he lived and became an integral participant of bringing the Rangers to Texas and establishing both the Lewisville Library and the Flower Mound YMCA. Though never an elected official, he served the cities of Lewisville, Lake Kiowa, and Corinth as an appointed member of various boards and committees to include planning, zoning and park boards. He continued to demonstrate the importance of community to him in his volunteer efforts to his churches, JC's, Rotary, and Kiwanis, where he gave of his labors and his heart. The most important aspect of James' life was his belief in Jesus Christ where he provided his unconditional love to his family and friends. Celebration of Life to be held at Thousand Hills Church in Corinth, TX at 3:30pm on Saturday, August 29,2020. As a result of Covid19 protocol, reservations are required at the Thousand Hills Church attendance website. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Jo and the family wish to send special appreciation to the staff of Southwestern Medical Center, Rockbrook Memory Care, Hospice, and the First Baptist Church of Lewisville Oasis Ministry.
