Alfonse John "Funta" Ignowski, 84, of Springfield, died at 7:20 p.m. Sunday, February 27, 2005 at Memorial Medical Center. Al was born October 15, 1920 in Ashton, NE the son of Steve and Helen Stanczyk Ignowski. He married Irene Lonowski July 25, 1942 in Chicago. She preceded him in death in 1992. Mr. Ignowski was employed as a sheet metal fabricator for Bell Aircraft Corporation for 14 years. He later worked for the City of Buffalo, New York retiring after 10 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII where he took part in the liberation of the Dachau Concentration Camp outside Munich, Germany. He received one Overseas Service Bar, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Battle Stars, Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post #10302. He was also preceded in death by parents; son: Donald Floyd in 1948; six brothers and one sister. He is survived by two sons: Harry (wife, Marjorie) Knowle of Powder Springs, GA, Steve (wife, Jackie) Knowle of Dallas, GA; one daughter: Linda (husband, Mike) White of Springfield; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two brothers: Richard Ignowski of Berwyn, IL, Ralph Ignowski of Wichita, KS and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2005 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1345 N. 6th St., Springfield with Rev. Msgr. Thomas P. Holinga celebrant. Cremation will be accorded by the Cremation Tribute Center following services. Graveside services will be held July 9, 2005 at Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City, NE.
