Joe Bailey Brooks 88 of Salinas passed away Friday, January 22, 2021 in King City, California. He was born August 29, 1932 in Somerton, Arizona. He lived 87 years in Salinas. He was the Foreman for Salinas Lettuce Farmers Cooperative, The Garin Company, Salesman for Leighton Seed Company and Truck Driver for Hildebrand Trucking, Paul T. Beck Construction, and Steve Martin-D'Arrigo & Martin, Inc., until he retired. Joe entered the Navy in 1950. He enjoyed his family, friends, animals and racing cars. He raced jalopies on the one-third mile dirt track at Salinas Speedway in 1953, enjoyed many years piloting a Sportsman, Super Modified, Micro Midgets, and Dwarf Cars. He also enjoyed watching his son-in-law, Bobby Hogge III and his grandson Bobby Hogge IV race. Preceded in death by: his wife of 60 years Gearlene (Gerry) Barnett Brooks, brother, Charles Brooks, father Coleman Brooks and Mother Evelyn Cantrell Mulroy. Survivors: Daughter, Janet (Robert) Hogge III of Salinas; Grandaughter, Jo Lynn (Brad) Rosbach; great grandson, Bailey Reed Rosbach; Grandson Robert (Jessica) Hogge IV; great granddaughters, Haleigh Ann Hogge and Kyleigh Grace Hogge, all of Salinas. Family services will be held in celebration of Joe's wonderful life.
