Funk attended Ennis High School. He was a lifetime resident of Ennis, Texas. He worked as an electrician and for East Bay American Motorcycles. He was a member of the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church of Ennis and Son of the American Legion. He loved NASCAR and motorcycles.
