Bio

Margaret Lena Skelton Alsup passed in to the Loving arms of Her Lord Jesus just before noon, October 9, 2007. Margaret was born August 8, 1914 in Clarendon, Texas to C. E. Skelton and Avis Bowmer Skelton along with her twin, Max De Witt Skelton. Her father was a wheat farmer in the Texas Panhandle and she grew up attending school and graduating from Groom High School. She earned an academic scholarship to the University of Texas where she attended for two years before meeting and marrying Joe J. Alsup, a young attorney working in the Attorney General's Office in Austin, Texas. They were married on February 17, 1934, and continued to live in Austin until 1938, when Joe became an assistant in the U.S. Attorney's office in Ft. Worth. In October, 1938, Margaret gave birth to her only child, Wm. DeWitt Alsup. The following year the couple moved to Corpus Christi, where Joe entered the practice of law and served as Assistant District Attorney on three occasions, District Judge 105th District Court, Municipal Court Judge, City of Corpus Christi. Margaret was an accomplished bridge player and belonged to several bridge clubs over the years. She loved to hunt and fish with her family and was always eager to enjoy the outdoors. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd and The Society of Mayflower Descendants. Margaret was one of ten children born into her family and is the last survivor of all her brothers and sisters. She was predeceased by Bowmer Skelton of Panhandle, Texas, Byron Skelton of Temple, Texas, William H. Skelton of Austin, Texas, Max De Witt Skelton of Temple, Texas, Barnet B. Skelton of Houston, Texas, Katherine Skelton Lee of Edna, Texas, Joe Ray Skelton of Gatesville, Texas, Howard Skelton of Tyler, Texas, and Ed Skelton of Groom, Texas. She was also predeceased by her mother, Avis Bowmer Skelton and her Father C.E. Skelton and her beloved husband Joe J. Alsup and her eldest grandson Joe Farr Alsup. She is survived by her son, Wm. DeWitt Alsup and wife Sharon; and four grandchildren: Mark De Witt Alsup and wife Stephanie Smith Alsup of Comstock, Texas, Lara Leanne Alsup Romo and husband Louis Romo of Edmond, Oklahoma, Ashley Elizabeth Alsup and William Matthew Alsup both of Houston, Texas; together with four great-grandchildren: Kendall and Parker Katherine Alsup of Comstock and Rudder and Kennedy Romo of Edmond, Oklahoma. In addition, Margaret had many nephews and nieces that she was very close to and loved greatly. Services were held on Friday, Oct. 12 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel. Margaret is buried in Corpus Christi, Texas, The Seaside Mausoleum next to her beloved Husband, Joe J. Alsup
