Bio

Dorothy Murphy, age 77, of Lincoln, formerly of North Platte, died at Bryan West in Lincoln on January 3, 2021. Dorothy was born in North Platte to Bessie and William 'Tuffy' Jolliffe on June 25, 1943. She graduated from St. Patrick's High School in 1961 then went to St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Lincoln, graduating in '64. On September 18, 1964, Dorothy married James Murphy at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in North Platte. Over the years the couple lived in North Platte then moved to various cities to be closer to their families. They lived in Buffalo and Westfield, New York, Milwaukee, Wisconsin and eventually decided to settle in North Platte to be closer to Dorothy's family. Wherever they lived they worked, her in nursing and Jim in law enforcement. While in North Platte, Dorothy worked at St. Mary's Hospital and was the Night Supervisor at Great Plains Regional Medical Center for many years. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Alter Society, Sierra Club and Faith Sharing. She was an avid sports fan and loved anything Husker. Dorothy especially loved her family, friends and God. She will always be remembered for her kindness to others. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, and their son, Scott; her parents, Tuffy and Bessie Jolliffe; and brothers, James and his wife, Marilyn, William 'Howdy', Ronald and Charles 'Chuck' Jolliffe. Survivors include her daughter, Kelly Murphy, of Lincoln; sons, Jim (Donna) Murphy, of Omaha, and Sean Murphy (significant other, Dorothy Reynolds), of Lincoln; grandchildren, Brittny (Shawn) Hermann, Sean (Tiffany) Murphy and Zach Murphy (Jenny DeCock); great-grandchildren, Olivia, Claire and Hunter Hermann; her sister, Meribeth (Tom) Kelsey, of North Platte; sisters-in-law, Jerre Jolliffe, of North Platte and Maerita Starr, of Wisconsin; as well as many nieces, nephews and other family. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, January 8, 2021, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the North Platte Cemetery. Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore is in charge of the arrangements.
