TURKEY - James Reddell "Pop" Irby, 90, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Dreamland Cemetery in Turkey with the Rev. John Dorn officiating. Arrangements are by Myers-Chancellor Funeral Home. Reddell was born Jan. 23, 1917, in Turkey, the only son of Richard and Emma Pearl Irby. He married Dollie Mae Farley on June 23, 1942. He was a 1939 graduate of the University of Texas School of Pharmacy and was known by many as "Reddell the Druggist" who owned City Drug in Turkey for more than 50 years. He was also a major in the U.S. Army Air Corps. flying B-24s in combat missions in the Pacific. As he was the only father in the unit, this is where he picked up the nickname "Pop." Mr. Irby was a member of the Methodist Church in Turkey and a Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Jimmy Farley Irby, who died of cancer in the 1950s. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, two sons, Richard Lynn and wife Michele of Forth Worth and Dennis Allen Irby and wife Peggy of Rockwall; and three grandchildren, Judson Allen Irby, Jennifer Lynn Irby and Alana Michele Irby.
