Bio

Funeral services for Johnny J. Burgess, 74, of Longville, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2005, at Hixson Funeral Home in DeRidder, with the Revs. Mid Murnett, Larry Talent and Stuart Graves officiating. Burial will follow in Wisby Cemetery in Pitkin. He died at 7:31 a.m. Friday, May 13, at his home. He was born in Victoria, Texas and lived in the area for many years. He was a welder in the oil industry and Justice of the Peace in District 4 for 25 years. He was of the Pentecostal faith. Survivors include his wife, Bernice W. Burgess of Longville; three sons, Johnny Newsome of Lake Charles, and Wendell Barron and Greg Barron, both of Longville; six daughters, Patricia King of Lake Charles, Gail Cantu of Liberty, Texas, JeaNette Myers of Hardin, Texas, Judy Robertson of Baytown, Texas, Sheryl Marks of Longville, and Brenda Gill of DeRidder; one brother, Ellory Burgess of Longville; one sister, Shirley Young of Kinder; 20 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
