The Gering Courier Gering, Nebraska 22 Dec 1988, Thu • Page 20 Archie Coons A funeral for Archie Coons, 82, Scottsbluff, who died Dec 13. was held Friday in First Baptist Church in Scottsbluff with the Rev. James Rowe officiating and burial in Sunset Memorial Park. A memorial was established to the church. Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements. He was born Nov. 16, 1906 in Custer county. He married Bertha May Sharp, Feb. 22, 1941 in Gering. He worked for the Pathfinder Irrigation District north of Morrill for seven years. They moved to Scottsbluff in 1944 where he worked for Franke Construction Company on road construction for 35 years Each campaign beginning in 1947 he loaded beets for the Great Western Sugar Company in Scottsbluff, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the church and was currently Noble Grand of IOOF Lodge No. 261 and Past District Deputy Grand Patriarch of IOOF. Survivors include his wife; son Earl of Alliance; stepson Clifford Alkire of Torrington, Wyo.; stepdaughter Gladys White of Maple Valley, Wash.; sisters Leona Fales of Grangeville, Idaho; Inez Brown of Osage, Wyo. and Marjorie Slayter of Tracy Calif.; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
