In 1930 Clarence was living in the community of Butler, Bastrop County, Texas, with his parents and brothers Samuel, James, Lloyd, and Tommy. His father worked in a brick plant. In 1940 Clarence was living in the community of Prewitt, Bastrop County, Texas, with his parents and brothers Lloyd, Tommy, and Wendell. His father worked for Elgin Brick Co. They had lived in the same house at that time since at least 1935. Clarence served in the U. S. Navy during WW II. He was listed on the muster roll of the USS Custer, an attack transport, in February 1945. This would mean that he would have been involved in the assault on Okinawa at the very least. Barbara Ann Pate married Clarence Baylor Huff on May 12, 1945, in Travis County, Texas. Clarence and Barbara Ann Huff had a daughter Oct. 4, 1946, in Bastrop County, Texas. (Texas Birth Index, 1903-1997) Information from obituary: Clarence Baylor Huff, 96, of Elgin, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 2, 2020. Clarence was born in McDade, Texas, on November 22, 1924 to Gracie Lee Dunbar Huff and Thomas Levi Huff. Clarence grew up at the Brick Yard. Clarence possessed a strong since of duty and obligation to their serve his country, especially in time of war. He dropped out of school, provided a fictious date of birth and enlisted in the U.S. Navy to serve his country. After the war, he moved back to McDade and married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Pate. They eventually moved their family to the family farm in the Pleasant Grove Community, where they raised their two children. Clarence worked hard his whole life and was active in his community. At the turn of the century, a group of Elgin High School students came together to honor all the young men who left school early to join the military during World War II with honorary diplomas. He was an Honorary Member of the Elgin Fire Department. In his spare time, Clarence loved to hunt and fish and spend time outdoors. Clarence was preceded in death by his wife of seventy-one years, Barbara Ann Huff, both parents; his five siblings, Samuel, James, Lloyd, Tommy, and Wendel Huff. He was survived by his two children, his four grandchildren, two great-granddaughters, and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. Funeral Service will be conducted at Williams Memorial Chapel December 8th, 2020. Interment ollowed with Military Honors at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
