Bio

Edith Louise (Geib) Svoboda, 90, of Lincoln, passed away on Monday, November 5, 2012 with her grandchildren by her side. She was born on August 17, 1922 in Valparaiso, Nebraska to Winnie and Bertha (Cunningham) Geib. Edith attended the Lincoln School of Commerce. On April 9, 1942 she was united in marriage to Charles B. Svoboda. Edith worked at the Post Office in Valparaiso, Cotner School of Religion, Christian Churches of Nebraska, Nebraska Council of Churches, Associate Executive Director of the Interchurch Ministries and Executive Director of the Fellowship Ministries all part of the Interchurch Ministries of Nebraska, Executive Director of the National Vocational Agricultural Teachers Association, and Saint Paul United Methodist Church. She was passionate with her involvement in her churches. She attended East Lincoln Christian for many years, where she was elected the first female elder. She served on many other committees as well. She also attended Bethany Christian Church during her later years. She served on the board for the Child Savings Institute in Omaha, and the City Cable Advisory Committee. Edith loved traveling to visit her family and friends. She also loved being with her family and celebrating all the milestones life has to offer. She was compassionate, giving and truly loved life. Her faith was incredibly strong. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by her granddaughter, Danae (Svoboda) and Rich Lorenzen, grandsons, Robert and Stacy Svoboda, and Tim and Sheila Svoboda; great grandchildren, Dustin, Nick and Alex Lorenzen, Tyler Degner, Liz and Jessie Svoboda, Dylan, Tommy and Sam Svoboda; many nieces, nephews and extended family. Preceded in death by brothers, Martin, Ivan, Melvin, Wilbur, Norman and Richard Geib, husband, Charles B. Svoboda, son, Richard (Dick) Svoboda, daughter-in-law, Judy (McNeill) Svoboda. Graveside Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday (11-10-12) Valparaiso Cemetery, Valparaiso, NE.
