Bio

Mrs. Margaret Cerra June 20, 1925 – November 29, 2020 Margaret Cerra died on November 29, 2020 at St.Elizabeth's Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska of Covid related illness. She was born June 20, 1925 to Joseph and Rose Patocka in Touhy, Nebraska. Margaret grew up on a farm and attended school in the Ceresco area. When she was 15 she moved to Lincoln and worked as a nanny. When World War II was raging she moved with a friend to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania so her friend could be near her enlisted husband. After the war, Margaret met and married John Cerra in 1947 and they soon moved back to Lincoln where they lived the rest of their lives. A son, Gary, was born to this union. Margaret was less than five feet tall but she was a tireless worker and never had a desk job. She was employed at the Royal Grove and W.T. Grant in the early years of her marriage and she retired from Telex after more than 25 years. Margaret and John loved to travel and many of their trips revolved around Husker football. She enjoyed listening to the games even in later years when she was unable to watch them. Gigi's main joy in life has been being part of her grandsons' and great-grandchildren's lives. Margaret is survived by her son Gary (Ellen) Cerra, grandsons Nathan Cerra of Minnesota, Justin (Melissa) Cerra of Ralston, Nebraska and great-grandchildren Maxwell and Rose Cerra, also of Ralston. She also leaves a sister, Wilma Stastny of Witchita, Kansas and many nieces and nephews. Margaret was pre-deceased by her husband, John, parents, Joseph and Rose Patocka, brother, Elmer Patocka, sister and brother-in-law Irene and Orville Housel, and brother-in-law, Jack Stastny. Due to the Covid pandemic, a small, graveside service will be held. Arrangements are provided by Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home.
