WESTON - Deward A. Pokorny, 54, of Weston died Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, at his home. He was born Sept. 7, 1948, in Wahoo. He graduated from Weston High School in 1967. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on May 15, 1968, in Omaha. He served in Vietnam from Oct. 4, 1968, to Oct. 3, 1969. He earned the Vietnam Service Medal with four bronze service starts, Campaign Medal with Device. He also received the Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged with the rank of SP4 on May 14, 1970, from Fort Bliss, Texas. He worked at Duncan Aviation in Lincoln where he was a finish detail specialist. He first worked for Bill Semrad in Weston doing body work and later worked for Bill Frohner in Wahoo doing body work. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4502 of Wahoo and V.F.W. Post 10617 of Lincoln. Survivors include a brother, Wayne (and wife, Phyllis) Pokorny of Malmo. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo. Closed casket visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home and continues one hour prior to service time. Burial will be in Sunrise Cemetery in Wahoo with military rites by the Fort Riley, Kan., Honor Guard.
