Bio

Corinne B. Polak, 89 of Denver, peacefully died on November 13, 2020 at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs. She joined our dad, Leonard, and we imagine she is dancing the polka with him. She was born on February 14, 1931 in Denver, Colorado to Frank and Cora Kemme, joining her brother Joseph. She attended St. Dominic’s and St. Catherine’s Grade Schools and graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School. She met the love of her life on a hayrack ride after graduation. They married in June 1953 while Leonard was serving in the Army. While she raised her 8 children, she was active in Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. She supported her husband as a deacon with his ministry in the Catholic Church, including preparing couples for marriage. She was very active in the Deacon Wives’ Group with the Archdiocese of Denver, as well as with the Cursillo movement. After her children were in school she worked as a librarian for the Denver Public School System. Her greatest joy was her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She attended every Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, High School Graduation, Wedding, and most College graduations. She kept her family connected with each other and extended family members. Corinne and Leonard traveled to all 50 states and several times to Europe. The highlight of their trip to Italy was meeting Pope John Paul II. She was a woman who never met a stranger. She was known as the “Muffin Lady” in the north Denver neighborhood of Harkness Heights. She would bake and deliver muffins to neighbors who moved into her neighborhood. She continued this tradition when she moved into The Gardens at St. Elizabeth. She enjoyed attending “pizza night” at the Thielens and we are indebted to Mary Kay and Mary Ursula who made this possible when we couldn’t. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leonard, her parents, in-laws, Joseph and Mary Polak, brother, Joseph Kemme, sisters-in-law, Sherry Polak, Nylalee Kemme, and Arlene Dittmer, daughter-in-law, Elsie, and nephew Gary Kemme.
