A.L. Burden Advocate News Service SAN ANTONIO — Alfred Lionel Burden, 79, of San Antonio and formerly of Victoria, died Monday at a San Antonio nursing home following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sunset Funeral Home in San Antonio with entombment to follow in the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum. Friends of the family are invited to visit at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Friday. Burden, whose business interests included accounting, home building and investment counseling, had been an elder of the College Church of Christ in Victoria and Grove Avenue Church of Christ in San Antonio. He had also been a chaplain in the Rotary Club. Born in Hamilton County on Oct. 3, 1906, Burden's interests included the welfare of orphans. He served on the board of directors of the Medina Children's Home for more than 25 years. He was also interested in Christian education and served for a number of years on the board of trustees of Abilene Christian College. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, the former Dovie Armstrong. Surviving are a son, Dr. Alfred L. Burden Jr. of San Antonio; two sisters, Lorena Bedichek of Abilene and Lucille Burden Wilson of Carrollton; a brother, Henry Owen Burden of Dallas; and three granddaughters.
