Lincoln Journal Star (NE) - Wednesday, February 11, 2004 Melvin Gene "Rabbit" Zajicek, 65, Crete, died Monday (2/9/04) at his home. Born, Pocahontas, Iowa (12/01/38), to Lumir and Alice (Turek). When Melvin was young, he moved to the family farm southwest of Crete. He attended Rural District No. 10 School through the eighth grade. He then graduated from Crete High School in 1956. Melvin served in the National Guard from 1956 to 1964. He married Anna Ehly in 1960. Melvin worked at Crete Buick Pontiac from 1960 to 1969. He then went to work for Petersen's in DeWitt until he retired after 25 years of service. Member: Crete Eagle's Club No. 3909. Survivors: wife, Anna; daughters, sons-in-law, Elaine and Larry, Wilber, Sherry and Jim, Crete, Vicky and Russ, Beaver Crossing, Christy and Mike, Lonetree, Iowa; grandsons, Roger, Craig, Todd, all Wilber, Allen, Henderson, Joshua,Wymore; granddaughter, Taylor, Lonetree. Preceded in death by parents, Lumir and Alice; granddaughter, Myra Fricke.
