Mrs. Strawn entered her heavenly home October 12, 2020. She was born December 26, 1941 in Baytown, Texas- she was the first child of Otis Aaron Gore and Opal Ruth Gore. Mary graduated from Florence High School and attended Austin Community College. After graduation, she promptly married her first and only love of her life, Donnie Lee Strawn of Florence on September 10, 1962. They had three daughters: Lana R. Shelton & husband, Fred E. Shelton of Killeen, Dana R. Hughes of Killeen, and Mary Kathleen (Kitten) LaBounty of Florence; seven grandchildren: Aaron D. Shelton and wife Kristen Shelton, Tanner R. Shelton, Tami D. Hughes, Amber R. Freeman and husband Keith Freeman, Keenan Glenn Hughes and wife Allison Hughes, Derek A. LaBounty, and Alicia M. LaBounty; Five great-grandchildren: Vivianna Gonzalez, Braden & Payton Starr, Elena Shelton, & Stephen Hughes; and a host of nieces & nephews. She is survived by one brother, Anthony Gore and wife Linda Gore of Florence, one sister, Joyce Holm and husband David Holm of Salado and one sister-in-law, Wanda Gower and husband Bud Gower of Killeen. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Charles Gore and one brother-in-law, Kenneth Strawn. After raising her three daughters as a stay-at-home mother, Mary started working for the Florence School District as a substitute teacher and finished as the manager of the school districts cafeterias. She retired from Florence ISD where she had served hundreds of children each year over her tenure, knew each one by name and adored them all. She was probably best known in her community for her baking skills; she made the tallest & tastiest meringue pies in the whole world! She enjoyed the great outdoors; gardening, hunting and fishing, but most of all she was a believer in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She wore many hats here on this earth... Proverbs 31 woman, feisty, fun-loving, always full of infectious laughter, able to speak with her eyes, caring, expert seamstress, beautiful, dressed to the nines, always put together, housekeeper (loved to vacuum), pie-maker, country dancer, bird hunter, fisher-woman, master gardener, lovely, adored all children, school lunchroom executive, fly-swatter toting (for bugs & behinds), big-hearted, speed walker, perfect hair-do everyday, and a die-hard Dallas Cowboy fan! She fondly referred to her grandchildren as her Grand-honeys and she was loved deeply by all of her family. Moreover, she was a Christian lady we called MiMi who was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. Well-done our good & faithful servant. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Phil 4:13 Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she smiles at the future. She opens her mouth in wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and bless her; her husband also, and he praises her, saying: " Many daughters have done nobly, but you excel them all." Proverbs 25-29 Give her the product of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates. Proverbs 31:31 I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Matt 28:20 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking in anything.. James 1:2-4 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
