Seward Independent, May 23, 1929, p. 1, col. 3 Kick From Mule Proves Fatal To John Maly Died in Seward Friday from Injuries Received While Working at Frank Moravec Farm. John Maly, aged 23 years and one day, died in Seward Friday from injuries received when kicked by a mule a few days before. He was employed on the Frank Moravec farm near Bee, and the accident occurred on Tuesday evening of last week. He was brought to Seward for treatment the same evening, but died about two and one-half days later. The deceased was born near Weston in Saunders county, May 16, 1906, and died on May 17, 1929. His parents moved to Brainard when he was a small child, where he attended school and lived most of the time since. His father died when he was quite young and his mother has been an invalid for many years. Besides his mother five brothers survive him, Joe and Frank of Bee, Emil of Brainard, Bohumil of Holt county and Edward of Bee. An uncle, Frank Kouma, lives near Garland, and other relatives live in Saunders county. Funeral services were held at Chain & Wood’s undertaking parlors at 9 o’clock Monday morning, conducted by Rev. Harry W. Hansen of the Federated church. The remains were taken to Weston for burial.
