Lincoln Journal Star (NE) - Tuesday, April 8, 2003 Frankforter - Lola Mae, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday (4/5/03). She had the wonderful good fortune to have recently celebrated her 80th birthday in March with her many family members and friends. Lola was born March 5, 1923, to John and Maime West in Valparaiso. She was a dietician with Crete Hospital for many years. Lola and husband Blaine were very active in the Crete VFW, where she served as Auxiliary president, and in numerous other office positions. After her husband's death in 1993, she moved to Czech Village in Wilber. She loved sewing, crafts, and polka music. She was an excellent cook and an avid gardener. Her family will remember her as "always laughing." Survivors: son, John Howe and wife Leslie, Wimberley, Texas; grandchildren, Sarah and Ian; sisters, Margaret Culbertson, Loretta Weber; niece, Charlotte Tenopir and husband Dwayne, and their children, Donna Behrends, Anita Novotny and husband Dan, and Lynn and fiance Nan Varney; nephew Jim Weber and wife Connie, and their daughters, Tiffany and Heidi; and many other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Blaine Frankforter; brother, Edward West; sisters, Florence Ludiker and Thelma Kablitz. The family wishes to extend special thanks to all of the wonderful health care professionals for their compassionate and gentle care, as well as the friendship and camaraderie they provided, which enabled Lola to live as independently as possible and remain in Nebraska, where she felt most at home. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Kuncl Funeral Home, Crete. A brief graveside service will follow in Lincoln at Lincoln Memorial Park, where Lola will be buried next to her husband. www.genealogybank.com
