Bio
Reta Samons died Friday in Dallas. Born July 25, 1924, in rural Wood County to Lonnie Clifton Ingram and Myrtle Pollyann Gilbreath Ingram, she picked cotton as a child before moving to Dallas in 1942 to work in an airplane parts defense plant during World War II. She married Charles Lewis and gave birth to four children during the eight years of their marriage. Over the next 30 years, Jo worked for an auto battery distributor and raised four children with the help of second husband, George Lamar McMinn. George passed away at their Irving home in 1984. In 1986, she moved to Fairfield, Texas, and married Alfred Edward Samons. In Fairfield, she volunteered to provide hospice care to cancer victims and served Meals on Wheels while working part-time as a clerk in Al's justice of the peace office. She was an active member of the Fairfield United Methodist Church. Jo and Al moved to the Dallas area in 2006, to be closer to family. Al died in 2012. Survivors include daughter, Charlotte Rushing of Fairfield; sons, David Lewis and wife, Judy of Arlington, Bob Lewis and wife, Delores of Coppell and Jim Lewis and wife, Tina of Cedar Creek; step-daughters, Linda Samons, Debbie Carter, Phyllis Landgrebe and husband, Jim; step-son, Mike Samons; grandchildren, Kenneth Rushing, Lisa Hughs, Suzette Lewis Clair, Michelle Yourell, Randy Lewis, Jeff Lewis, Danielle Lewis, Mark Lewis, Chelsea Lewis and Stephen Fucile as well as numerous great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. Service will be at 12:30 PM on Monday, April 14, 2014 at Restland Wildwood Chapel, with Rev. Paul Kethley of First United Methodist Church of Fairfield officiating.
