Viola Wilma Pokorny left this earthly home for her heavenly home on November 2, 2015. She was born in Bastrop County near Smithville, Texas, on September 23, 1923, to Charlie and Minnie (Teykl) Palla. On August 30, 1947, she married her sweetheart, Joe R. Pokorny. Viola was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; she loved her family dearly and always went out of her way to help them with anything. She was a wonderful homemaker and helped her husband, Joe, on the farm. She loved cooking, baking kolaches, and making her famous oatmeal cookies. Viola enjoyed working in her vegetable garden and flower garden, and her roses were prize winners. Viola always said that love was the key to her and Joe's happy marriage. She was the heart and soul of our family. Viola was a member of the Taylor Brethren Church; she also was a member of the Christian Sisters, SPJST Lodge 29 and VFW Post 4476. Viola is survived by her son, Dennis Pokorny and wife, Theresa; daughters, Gail Johle, Karen Miller, and husband, Ken; a brother Wilbert Palla and wife, Martha; grandchildren, Kristi Susan and husband, Joey, Darrin Svehlak and family friend, Frank Palasota,Trey Johle and wife, Amy, Brandi Tull and husband, Ryan, Michele Elkins and husband, Todd, Melissa Bradley, and Mitzi Hutchens and husband, Jason; great-grandchildren, Ashley Susan, Amber Susan, Austin Susan, Zachary Johle, Blake Johle, Abigail Tull, Tripp Tull, Jase Tull, Madison Elkins, Ryan Elkins, Cade Elkins, Alex Bradley, Dillon Bradley, Jacob Hutchens, and Kelsey Hutchens; and her niece, Carolyn Palla; and nephews, Ray Palla, John Hajdik, and Charles Hajdik. Honoring Viola as pallbearers are Ray Palla, Augie Svehlak, Ronnie Urbanek, Tandy Betak, Bo Betak,and Clint Schroeder. Honorary pallbearers will be Edward Betak, Anton Pokorny, Paul Pokorny, and Gerald Cole. Special thanks to the wonderful staff in the memory care unit at Wesleyan at Scenic in Georgetown, Texas. Their love and devotion to Viola was greatly appreciated. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Taylor Brethren Church, P.O. Visitation will be at Condra Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2015. Funeral Services are scheduled at Taylor Brethren Church on Friday, November 6, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. A meal will be served at the Taylor Brethren Church immediately following burial.
