1983 Stamford Mirror-Recorder- Harry D. Effner, 93, of 14 Beaver St. Stamford, died Monday. Aug. 29 in the Community Hospital. He was born March 24, 1890 in Blenheim, the son of Lorenzo and Ada (Reed) Effner. He married Hazel C. Schell on July 10, 1908 in Gallupville. He had lived in Stamford since 1912. For over 30 years he owned and operated Effner Motors, an automobile dealership. He was a trustee for the Village of Stamford Board for nine years: Chairman for the Town of Stamford Board of Assessors for 18 years; he was President of the Stamford Cemetery Association: and a member and former trustee of the Stamford United Methodist Church: he was a life member of the B.P. Order of the Elks 1512. Oneonta. He is survived by his wife: two daughters. Mrs. George (Betty) Haney. Syracuse. Mrs. Naomi Shelmandine. Stamford: a granddaughter: two great-grandchildren:- a sister Mrs. Pearl Peters. Stamford. and a niece. Funeral services were Thursday. Sept. 1. at the Stamford United Methodist Church, with the Rev. William St. John. Pastor, and the Rev. William R. Phinney. former Pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Stamford Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Stamford United Methodist Church memorial fund.
