Calton A. Root 6/15/1921 - 9/15/2007 Batesville , AR Calton A. Root, 86 of Batesville died on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at White River Medical Center. He was born on June 15, 1921 in Jethro, Arkansas and was the son Aaron J. and Minnie (Daily) Root. He grew up on a farm near Hickory Ridge, Arkansas and was in the U.S. Army from July 2, 1942 and was honorably discharged on January 1, 1946. While he was in the Army, he served overseas in the Pacific theatre with the aviation engineer battalion. Calton met and married Theresa Robinson in 1948 and they had two children together, Raymond and Denise. Then in 1955 they moved to Dumas, Texas where he went to work for and retired from the Diamond Shamrock Natural Gas Plant. In 1971, he met and married Jean Huff and moved back to Arkansas in 1990. For the past three years, Calton was living at Wildewood Independent Living Center. He was a member of the Desha V.F.W. and he enjoyed the outdoors, dancing and watching baseball. Calton is survived by a son, Raymond Root of Prescott, Arizona; a daughter, Denise Root McDonald of Colleyville, Texas; a brother, Mirlan Root; two sisters, Belva Smith and Glenda Johnston. He is also survived by some grandchildren. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Theresa Robinson Root Brown; his second wife, Jean Huff Root; a brother, Verlin Root; and a sister, Jewel Marler. There will be a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the Roller-Crouch Funeral Home Chapel with David Adams officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. A private burial will follow at Lewis Cemetery in Hickory Ridge, Arkansas under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.
