He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Shirley (nee Aloisi) Thompson; daughter Carol (Donn) Robbins of Muskego, WI; two sons: William J. (Pamela) Thompson Jr. of Rocky River, OH and Michael D. (Billie Jackson) Thompson of Merrillville, IN; four grandchildren: William J. Thompson III, Michael David Thompson Jr. and Nena Lora Robbins and Victoria Pauline Thompson; four step-grandchildren: Serreana, Jesse, David and Andrew, several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents William A. (Nena) Thompson; brother Jimmie (Mary) and nephew Sean Thompson. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. from Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Ave., Hammond (Hessville) to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. with Father Charles Mosley Celebrant. Burial to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville. Friends are invited to meet with the a family on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Ave., Hammond (Hessville). Bill was a resident of the Region for the past 53 years. He retired as a foreman from Republic Steel in 1983 after 30 years of service. He coached many years in the Highland Youth Softball Association, serving as the past president, coach, tournament director and umpire. He lead the team to win State Championships in 1974, 1975 and 1976 and participated at the Nationals several times. Bill enjoyed all sports but was an avid Greenbay Packers fan.
