Bio

Lt. John D. Dykowski, 61, of Taylor, died on Thursday, October 5, 2000, at an Austin Hospital. Rosary services will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 7th, at Providence Funeral Home Chapel in Taylor. Celebration of Mass will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Lonnie Urban, Celebrant. Burial to follow at Taylor City Cemetery. John Dykowski was born in Granger, Texas, on July 5, 1939, to Ed and Frances Nemec Dykowski. He entered the U.S. Navy at 18, served for 24 years, and retired as Chief Petty Officer in 1982. John married Elizabeth Allen on December 20, 1968, in San Diego, California. He farmed for a few years and then joined the Taylor Police Department in 1985 as a dispatcher. He attained the rank of Lieutenant in the department and commanded the Field Services Division. Lt. Dykowski was second in command of the agency and was also involved in the Turn Around Taylor Organization. John was an avid hunter and fisherman. John was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Knights of Columbus, Thorndale VFD, American Legion of Taylor, and Taylor VFW. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth of Taylor; sons, Stephen Dykowski and wife, Amie, of Hutto, John Dykowski and wife, Brenda, of Rochester, Minnesota, and Mike Dykowski of Taylor; daughters, Kim Fulton and husband, Drew, of Pflugerville, Sheri Eickmeier and husband, John, of Cedar Park, and Monica Elizondo and husband, Alex, of Taylor; brother, Edward Dykowski and wife, Corrine, of Granger; sisters, Valeria Cepak of Taylor, and Joan Rister and husband, Ernest, of Round Rock; eleven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
