Zeke Owen (Ronald Owen Mozisek), 1940-2019 Zeke started his career in 1956 at age sixteen with Los Angeles' Ernie Sutton (who he called "Uncle Ernie") at a time when tattooing was about to undergo major changes. By the 1960s, the trade was opening up to the next generation of tattoo artists, who carried on tattooing's essence, but also imbued it with new artistic elements, customized designs, improved sterilization, and different business approaches. It was a shift that expanded the trade and welcomed a much broader customer base who had diverse tastes and interests. And it gave rise to a momentous dynamic—a continual feedback loop between tattoo artists and their customers that sees tattooing evolving along with the pulse of society. (from Buzzworthy Tattoo history) Zeke wrote the healthcodes for New York to open tattooing in that state. He also introduced Asian art tattooing to the mainland USA. He tattooed in all 7 continents and spoke 7 languages fluently. He was an avid reader and a 5th degree black belt in ju-Jitsu. A famous quote of his is "if you can't do tattooing, you might as well take up boating". Several old timers in the industry report that the tattooed more sailors than any one person. His lines were long, fluid, and fast. His son says "he was an amazing man and was dearly loved by alot of people around this big blue marble."
