"KAYES Mary Jane Kayes, daughter of Mayme Scott Kelly and Hal H. Kelly, died on November 20, 2012, of natural causes. She was born on October 1st, 1917, in Altamont, IL. Mary Jane, known to her family as Nana, grew up in Charleston IL, and attended university at Eastern Illinois State Teachers College where she obtained a Bachelors of Education, graduating with high honors. One of her most notable memories was when she interviewed Eleanor Roosevelt for the college newspaper. She met her husband and the love of her life, Alfred E. Kayes, while teaching in Hammond, IN. Alfred and Mary Jane were married January 1, 1942 and after Al returned from Europe during WWII, they settled in Columbus, Ohio, where they raised two daughters, Marianne and Susan. Mary Jane worked with Al at the A.E. Kayes Company, and she was a 50 year member of the AV Chapter of the PEO sisterhood. She is survived by her two daughters, Marianne and Susan; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren." Published in The Columbus Dispatch from Nov. 20 to Nov. 21, 2012.
