On December 6, 1944, at 22:10 hours, B-17G Flying Fortress #42-107195 stalled and crashed into Tampa Bay, four miles WSW of Drew Field, Tampa, Florida, killing the crew of nine. Barchenger of Thorndale; sister and 5 brothers. All of his brothers were in the armed forces. Memorial by Delphine Richter Thomas Victor John was born to Christoph George and Sophia (Schroeder) Barchenger. Victor enlisted in the U. S. Army on October 3, 1940. He was a sergeant in the U. S. Army Air Corps. He married Peggy Ruth Wence on December 16, 1942 in Raton, Colfax, New Mexico. They had one son, Willis George. After his death, Peggy had another son, Jon David. He was preceded in death by his mother; 2 brothers, Willis George and Walter; and 1 sister, Janet. He was survived by his wife; son; father; step-mother, Clara (Rueffer); 5 brothers, William "Bruno," Edwin, Arnold, Amos, and Ora; and 1 sister, Alice. Burial took place on December 12, 1944.
