The Vernon Daily Record Vernon, Texas · Monday, November 06, 1939 Funeral services for William S. Tarver, 81, of Abilene, former pioneer resident of Foard County, were held at the Thalia Methodist Church Sunday afternoon. Rev. F. D. Pearson of Vernon officiated at the services, assisted by Rev. Frank McNair of Electra and Rev. Don Culbertson of Margaret. Mr. Tarver died at a Abilene hospital Friday night. He was born in Tyler County and lived near Waco many years. He and his family came to Foard County 26 years ago and lived near Thalia until moving to Abilene in July, 1937. He was a member of the Methodist Church, of the Masonic Lodge and of the Woodmen of the World. Survivors are his wife, five daughters, Miss Johnny Lee Tarver of Abilene, Mrs. Sim Gamble and Mrs. Buck Hudgins of Thalia, Mrs. Albert Smith of Dickens, Mrs. Walter Murphy of Vernon; three sons, A. E. Tarver Oklahoma City, B. F. Tarver of Estelline, and W. B. Tarver of Clyde; 50 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Pall bearers were Allen Shultz, Johnny Gamble, C. C. Wheeler, Fred Brown, Sim Gamble, and Leg Hammonds. Flower bearers were granddaughters. Burial was in the East View Memorial Park Vernon by Womack Funeral Home of Crowell.
