(obit courtesy contributor Joe Eckols ) EDITED Elizabeth "Liz" Agnes (Mazac) Orr passed away peacefully at Will-O-Bell nursing home in Bartlett, Texas on Friday, May 9, 2025, at the age of 98. She was a devoted wife to her late husband, Robert Lee Orr III, and was a loving aunt to her two Goddaughters Sandra Ging and Karen Peschke who cared deeply for her. Liz was born to John Jerome Mazac and Malthilda (Krampota) Mazac on January 6, 1927, in Granger, Texas. She grew up working in the field with her family in the small farming community of Granger where she attended Palacky, Moriavia, and Catholic Schools followed by Taylor High School. Liz was a homemaker, carpenter, and a skilled artisan with ceramics and paints. She perfected the making of beautiful things for her own home as well as for others. Liz opened her own ceramic shop in Beaumont, Texas where she sold her ceramics and taught lessons in mounding, painting, and firing. On May 22, 1948 Liz married the love of her life, Robert. The two lived in Taylor for several years until Robert was transferred to work in Beaumont. They lived in Orange, Texas for 60 years before moving back Taylor in 2015 to be closer to her brother and his family. The two were married for over 76 years and lived at home together into their mid-90's, doing everything together and sharing an unbreakable bond between the two of them. Later in life Liz and Robert enjoyed traveling across the United States in their motorhome, even making it up to Washington State. They also both loved caring for the many flowers in their yard and working together on many household projects including adding rooms to their home. For 40 plus years they entertained family and friends at their home and camp house on the Neches River, where they played many games of 42 dominoes into the wee hour of the morning. Liz also loved to be in the kitchen cooking for her family and for Robert who never cooked a meal until Liz broke her shoulder when she was 94 years old. Liz introduced her family to Cajun foods and enjoyed preparing her specialties of gumbo, boiled crab, shrimp creole, and fried shrimp every time family visited. They also loved to drive a short distance to Louisiana to play the slot machines at the casino, where they were lucky enough to win a new GMC Sierra truck. Liz is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother Raymond Mazac, and sister-in-law, Shirley Mazac. Liz is survived by her nieces; great nephews; and great great nieces. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Taylor City Cemetery.
