Bobby Claude Atherton, Sr., 80, of Greenville, passed away on August 8, 2020 at his home. Visitation will be Saturday, August 15, 2020, 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at Memoryland Memorial Park with Mr. Kenny Stone officiating. Mr. Atherton was born November 7, 1939 in Greenville, Texas to Martin Atherton and Opal Swindell Atherton. He married Ellen Townsend on July 7, 1959 at Lamar Baptist Church in Greenville, Texas. He was veteran of the United States Army. He worked as a Software Engineer and was a member of Family Fellowship of Greenville. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Townsend Atherton of Greenville; sons, Woody Atherton and wife, Mary of Gatesville and Bobby Atherton Jr. and wife, Regina of Greenville; brother, Don Atherton and wife, Barbara of Greenville; sister, Carolyn Atherton Brown of Greenville; grandchildren, April and Michael Stapleton, Jennifer, Amanda, Adella, Brittany and Robert Atherton; four great-grandchildren; four nephews and one niece. He was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Fellowship Bible Class at Family Fellowship, 401 Division Street, Greenville, Texas 75401.
