Bio

Robert M. Couser was born about 1816 in SC and married Elizabeth Ann Foutch about 1836 at Tullahoma, TN. Elizabeth was born 18 May 1818. Robert's parents were John F. Couser (who served in the War of 1812 under Andrew Jackson) and Rebecca Pearson. The 1840 Lincoln County, TN, census lists the R.M. Couser household as follows: 1 male age 20/30, 1 female age 20/30, and 2 males age 0/5; occupation teacher with 28 students. The family is found in the 1850 Lincoln County census with seven children and the 1860 Lincoln County census with the ten youngest children still in the household. Robert died around 1872, bankrupt according to family lore. Robert and Elizabeth were buried in Smith Chapel Cemetery, near Lynchburg in Moore County (formerly part of Lincoln County).
