Family and friends mourn the passing of ERNEST WESLEY ZRUBECK, JR. on Aug. 8 in Houston, Texas. He was born in Galveston on May 15, 1932 to Ernest Wesley Zrubeck and Bernice Dodds Zrubeck, and grew up in Corpus Christi. Mr. Zrubeck, affectionately known as Ickey, leaves his family and friends with the memory of a persevering spirit, positive outlook, unconditional friendship, considerate manner and ready humor. He handled his disability with the greatest dignity. To his family and friends, he was a hero and constant inspiration. Mr. Zrubeck had many interests. He was a pen-and-ink artist, and a computer Internet, sports and animal enthusiast. He also was a well-known ham radio operator in Corpus Christi. He moved to Houston in 1966 to be near his sister and her family. He was buried at the Seaside Cemetery in Corpus Christi, next to his mother. Mr. Zrubeck is survived by his sister Charlotte Clifford Pakenham-Walsh, nephew William Craig Clifford, niece Toni Clifford McMullen, and two great nieces and one great nephew. • The Houston Chronicle, Friday, Aug. 29, 1997
