His parents were Gillie Edward Strother and Laura Carley Struther. He was married to the late Mattie L. Marshall Strother for 57 years. Survivors included his daughter, Marsha Grace Beadle ("Victoria Advocate," 20 September 2002). WWII draft card lists Joseph Kenneth Marshall of Corpus Christi as his father-in-law.
