Albertine "Betty" Juliet Wendland, 89, of Taylor left this earthly life on Tuesday, January 8, 2002. Prayer service will be held at 7 PM, Wednesday at Providence Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 10, 2002, 10 AM at the Taylor Brethren Church with the Rev. James Hejl officiating. Burial to follow at Taylor City Cemetery. Albertine "Betty" Wendland was born July 22, 1912, in Williamson County to Frank J. and Annie (Hurta) Dlouhy. She lived on a farm during her early life and on January 29, 1935, married Gus A. "Mike" Wendland at the Granger Brethren Church. Together they farmed and ranched and for a while, during WW II, they opened a meat market in Austin. After the war, they returned to farming in the San Gabriel area. Betty was often seen helping with the farming and ranching activities. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Betty was an excellent seamstress and wonderful cook. She was also an avid gardener, working with her flowers as well as her vegetables. Betty was a member of the Taylor Brethren Church and most recently a resident of the SPJST Rest Home of Taylor. Survivors include her daughter, Shirley Mazac and husband, Raymond of Taylor; daughter-in-law, Irene Wendland and husband, Bob Lancaster of Kerrville; sister, Mildred Kaminski of Taylor; two granddaughters, Sandra Ging and husband, James of Taylor and Karen Peschke and husband, Walter of Taylor; two great-grandchildren, Bradley Ging and Brandon Peschke and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; son, Daniel F. Wendland; and sister, Elsa Schwenke. Pallbearers will be James Ging, Walter Peschke, Kenneth Schwenke, Willie Vrana, Russell Hyvl, and Richard Woodward.
