James Joe Slovacek, 79, of Winona, Texas, passed away on July 2, 2020. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery. James was born on July 8, 1941, in Alma, Texas, to the late John Jerry Slovacek and Stacy (Hrbacek) Slovacek. He graduated from Ennis High School class of 1959. He served in the Texas Air National Guard in Grand Prairie, Texas. Living in Dallas, he worked for the Army Commissary in the immediate area and also in Japan. After returning from Japan, he was employed by FasTax as a printer operator. In his later years, James worked for Calloway’s Nursery delivering plants in the greater Dallas area. James never forgot his roots, he continued to work the family farm in Alma, Texas, in his spare time. His big challenge was to keep the vintage tractors running. After the farm was sold, he retired to a small independent living complex in Winona, Texas, where his new challenge was to try to fix anything broken in the complex. James is survived by his sister, Dorothy (Slovacek) Jurik; brother, Raymond J. Slovacek and his wife, Yvonne, of Dallas; nephew: Darius Slovacek, of Louisville, CO; nieces: Deborah (Slovacek) Flink, of Richardson, TX, DeAnna (Slovacek) Lemmer, of Paint Lick, KY, Jayme Jurik, Kristine Jurik, and LeAnn Jurik. z5
