Bio

Onie, the second son of John and Ellen Durnen, was born October 17, 1899, at Clyde, Iowa co, and died at his home in Fennimore at 10:30 p.m., Saturday eve, November 2, at the age of 29 years, 2 weeks and 3 days. June 16, 1913, he was united in marriage to Miss Lena McDermott of Bloomington, to which union was born two children, Vivian, aged 5 years, and Irene, aged two. Onie was always of a strong rugged constitution until last February, when he contracted la grippe, which developed into pleurisy and pneumonia, from which condition he never fully recovered. In the early summer he sought relief at Wales, but to no avail. He returned to his home in this city to spend his remaining days among loved ones. He was a patient sufferer for nine months and was resigned to the will of God. The funeral was held Wednesday morning from St Mary's church at ten o'clock, where a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends had assembled to pay a last loving tribute to his memory. The services were conducted by Rev Feld, who gave an instructive and fitting address. The remains were laid to rest in St Mary's cemetery. Onie leaves to mourn his early demise a wife and two little girls, Vivian and Irene, father and mother, two brothers, Andie of Mt Ida, Raymond, a soldier in base hospital at Camp Shelby, unable to attend the funeral, also five sisters, Frances, (Mrs Wm O'Brien) of Fennimore, Marie (Mrs Tom Sullivan) of Highland, Nell, (Mrs James O'Shaughnessy) of Mt Hope, Kathereen and Della, at home. One brother and two sisters preceded him to the great beyond. A father from his home was called; A brother from our side, To realms of brightness far above, Close at our Saviour's side. Thus while our hearts a void shall feel, Fr one we loved and lost, For comfort we shall ever turn, To Jesus on the cross. CARDS OF THANKS We wish to express our sincere thanks to all for the kindness rendered during the illness and death of a beloved husband, son and brother.
