Bio

Robert G. Baker, 96 who resided in Laporte, Colorado passed away June 16, 2018. He was born July 19th, 1921 in New Raymer, Colorado to parents, Charles Baker and Mabel (Hill) Baker. His family relocated to Arcadia, Nebraska where he spent his childhood. He married Myrtle Matson on May 16, 1942, in Yuma, Arizona. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1940. Following WWII, he continued his service in the Army Air Corp and transitioned to the United States Air Force. After 20 years of service he retired in 1960 at the rank of Master Sargent. After his retirement from military service, he became a real estate broker. He and his family moved to the Ft. Collins area in 1961 and he began a successful real estate business. In the next few years he explored many business ventures. In 1979, he became the Poudre Canyon mail carrier and after several years he once again retired. He enjoyed fishing and traveling for many years. He was caring, hard working and his sense of humor brightened the lives of many people. He is survived by his children, Barbara Hooker of Aurora, Colorado, Kenneth Baker of LaPorte, Colorado, and Keith Baker of LaPorte, Colorado. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle and his son, Thomas. A Visitation will be held at Bohlender Funeral Chapel from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2018. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 25, 2018 followed by a luncheon at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ft. Collins. Graveside Service with Military Honors will be at Greenhill Cemetery in Laramie, Wyoming at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, Trinity Lutheran Church, or the American Legion in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, CO 80524.
