Bio

Robert Lehman "Big Bob" Roberts , was the only child of Robert Lenoy Roberts and Rose Lehman Roberts, and a great grandson to Gov. Oran Milo Roberts, Sr. Bob went to be in the presence of his Heavenly Father on Monday, August 27, 2007 after a lengthy illness. Robert Lehman Roberts was born in Houston, Texas on March 19, 1924 and shortly thereafter moved to Austin, Texas with his parents. He lived his entire life in Austin, except for the time he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Bob married his soul mate Patricia Joy Hall on February 2, 1946 and they made their home together in Austin. Surviving family include his wife Patty Roberts, of the home, daughter Susan Joy Belisle; sons Robert Lehman Roberts Jr. and his wife Sharon Hardin Roberts; Oran Sims Roberts and his wife Kimber Lee Vanbeck. Mr. Roberts is also survived by six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Bob has been a Christian for most of his life and was a Charter member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. In his life Bob Roberts was involved in many organizations. Bob graduated from Austin High School, where he also played French horn in the 'Maroon' band. He was a Boy Scout and later spent many years as a troop leader. Bob joined the U.S. Marine Corps right out of high school and served his country in the South Pacific during World War II and was wounded on Saipan. He declined the two Purple Hearts that were awarded him. Roberts attended Texas A&M University and has always been a big Aggie supporter. The Roberts Family would like to extend a special thanks to the many who gave loving care to Mr. Roberts during his illness. Our thanks to Ana Reese who has been a full time caregiver and like part of the family for Bob and Patty Roberts during the last several months. We want to thank Elaine Rachin from Heavenly Caregiver services for her help. Our appreciation also goes to Odyssey Hospice Care for their comfort given to Mr. Roberts during his last days here. From all the Roberts family we thank you all. Visitation will be Friday August 31, 2007 at Cook-Walden Funeral Home 6100 North Lamar Blvd. Funeral service will be held at Cook-Walden Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday September 1, 2007 with burial service at Austin Memorial Park following. Honorary pallbearers are the five grandsons; Randy Belisle, Brian Roberts, Brooks Roberts, Blake Roberts, and Evan Roberts..
