Lillian Marie Marek, 89, of East Bernard TX, entered the fullness of life peacefully on July 4, 2020 at home. Her devoted husband of 71 years, Raymond John Marek, her children, relatives, and friends all mourn her death, but believe she now rejoices in God's reign. Lillian was born in 1931 in Weimar to Mr. and Mrs. Roman Bartosh. She and her parents later moved to Wallis, and Lillian graduated from Wallis High School. It was in Wallis that she met the love of her life, Ray Marek. Lillian and Ray were married on June 28, 1949 and lived in Wallis, Texas. They then moved to East Bernard where they resided for 68 years and raised 10 children, Larry Marek (Karla, deceased), Paulette Dobias (Dennis, deceased), Maria Marek, Debbie Van Pelt (Michael), Patrick Marek, Fr. Ray John Marek, OMI, Maureen Marek, Daniel Marek (Roxane), Josette Pesek (Dwayne), and Shelly Peters (Steve). She rejoiced in 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and her loving brother, Eugene. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but we celebrate her life and accomplishments. Lillian enjoyed dancing polkas and waltzes at club dances and wedding celebrations. She was at ease with needlepoint, a crochet hook, a sewing needle, or a fishing pole in her hand. She especially enjoyed sewing formal dresses for fashion dolls that were donated to the booth at the church bazaar. She devoted her efforts to her husband, children, extended family, and relatives. The Mareks had a grocery business for 25 years in East Bernard. As they raised their family, they made frequent fishing trips to Matagorda and other Texas Coast locations. Lillian was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, KJZT, Knit-Wits, Miraculous Medal Society, and a lifelong member of the Rosary Confraternity. While many may want to come to the services, the family knows that many cannot and should not attend due to the pandemic. Social distancing rules will be enforced. Face coverings must be worn at all times. Visitation time will be spaced in groups of 10. No more than 75 people can be in attendance for the rosary and funeral mass to allow for social distancing. Visitation will be at Holy Cross Church on July 8 from 5:00-7:00 pm. Rosary at 7:00 pm. The funeral mass is at Holy Cross on July 9 at 10:00 am; burial following at Holy Cross Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers are all Lillian's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family expresses special appreciation to the caregivers from Compassionate Care for their attention to Lillian. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Holy Cross Vocation Scholarship Fund (P.O. Box 1325, East Bernard, TX 77435) or the Vocation Fund for the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate (327 Oblate Drive, San Antonio TX 78216). Condolences may be posted at www.knesekfuneralhome.com. Other condolences and prayers are distributed in the Catholic Daughters newsletter.
