Bio

John Henry Clay was born in Harris County, Georgia. He was born to Isaac H. Satterwhite and Letitia C. Hollis. John married Mary Ann Colwell on October 16, 1864 at Harrison County, TX. They had 3 children: Jeanie, Lela R., and Minerva A. The story that is told today by the elder Satterwhite's is that Mary Ann was dying in child birth. She asked her sister Lena Eveline to take her children and marry their father to raise as her own. 'Eveline' kept her promise. John Henry married Eveline (date unknown at this time) and had the following children: William Horace, George David, Lucrecia Jane, John Hulet, Cephus Clemin, Lutecia Eugenia, Alvin Barnes, Marcus Clinton, Nannie L., and James Leonard. John Henry's headstone reads as J. H. Satterwhite 1846 - 1907. Bluff Springs Cemetery was originally located in a small community named Bluff Springs, but the community no longer exist. This cemetery is literally down an old logging road, dirt with grass growing down the middle, and is not easily found.
