Bio
A well loved teacher! Denise Renee Oaks-Moffett passed away peacefully Friday morning after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was 51, born June 13, 1958 in Greeley. Denise was a loving wife, mother, daughter and sister. She dedicated her life to teaching, guiding hundreds of students and dozens of fellow teachers and administrators through her 21 years of service. She won many awards through the years, though she was much too modest to share her many accomplishments. Denise was recognized as teacher of the year, by her school district and also by the Summit Daily News. She was nominated for the Disney National Teacher of the Year Award. Denise was also recognized in Who's Who Among America's Teachers and Who's Who Among America's Students before that. She graduated valedictorian at Dougherty High School in Albany, Georgia and salutatorian at Georgia Southwestern University in Americus, Georgia. Denise is survived by her husband, Wesley Ray Moffett, son, Dalton Remington Moffett and daughter, Awbrey Leigh Moffett of Fairplay; mother Mary Jean Remington Oaks of Albany, Georgia; sisters Michelle Jeannine Oaks, also of Albany, Georgia and Viki Laurette Oaks of Cumming, Georgia; and nephew Chayton Cooper Thompson, also of Cumming, Georgia. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be announced in the near future.
