Daniel Paul Hejl, Sr. passed away on September 28, 2006. He was the youngest of four children born to Joseph and Antonio Hejl on July 24, 1923 in Taylor, Texas. He was raised on their farm outside of Thrall and graduated from Thrall High School. He also attended TSU. Daniel proudly served his country during WW II in the Army Aircorp stationed in Italy. Daniel was also a past president of the Granger American Legion and a member of the Temple VFW. Daniel met the love of his life, Lillian Ruth Baca, when he worked as a gas station attendant in Granger. Lillian's friend was smitten by Daniel and asked Lillian to stop at the gas station, but when she did, her friend ducked under the seat. When Daniel walked up to the car he asked her "How much gas do you want?" Lillian replied, "I have only 50 cents, how much gas can I get for 50 cents?" Daniel said "50 cents worth" and the rest was 59 years of love and happiness. Daniel and Lillian eventually moved to Austin, Texas and raised their four children: Charlotte, Cynthia, Claudette, and Daniel, Jr. Daniel was a dedicated husband and father. He loved family, baseball, football, Las Vegas, and hunting. Daniel was preceded in death by his daughters Lillian and Charlotte, sons-in-law Timothy Reese and Timothy Walters. Daniel is survived by his wife, three children, two sisters, 12 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one son-in-law. A memorial service will be held at Providence Funeral Home at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 7, 2006. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Association.
