Pauline Martinka Beard, 78, of Granger died Sunday, April 22, 2007 at Scott & White Hospital in Temple. Visitation will be 6-8 PM, Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at Providence Funeral Home. Celebration of Life graveside services will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at Weir Cemetery. Pauline Virginia Martinka Beard was born on October 10, 1928 to John D. and Vergie (Page) Martinka in Granger, Texas. She married George Truett Beard on January 18, 1947. This marriage was blessed with one son. Pauline was a member of the Tuesday Study Club in Granger for years. She was a true "southern lady" in every sense of the word. She was creative, loved gardening, painting, cooking, and was always the perfect hostess. Pauline was an adoring mother and grandmother and loved spending time with her family. She was a very gracious lady, but was also quick to let you know her views on politics and enjoyed playing the stock market. Pauline was definitely a woman with views some may have regarded as "visionary" or "before her time" for the generation in which she lived, but are greatly admired by the women in today's world. Her quick wit, charm, and spunk will be greatly missed by her many loving family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George T. Beard, Sr.; and a daughter-in-law, Jan Beard. Pauline is survived by her son, George T. Beard, Jr. and wife, Rita of Pryor, OK.; a grandson, G. T. Beard, III of Granger; sisters, Mary Ann Berger, of Taylor; Lillian Martinka of Taylor; Romonna Hartman of Marble Falls; loving friends, Denise and Milton Kelly; faithful helper, Otis Scott; several nieces; nephews; other family members and friends.
