Bio

Maria's first husband was Henry Hemphill. They migrated from Pennsylvania to the Kansas Territory with the Eberhart family. The families arrived in what is now Kansas City on March 21, 1854 after a river journey from St. Louis. Henry Hemphill and their daughter Catherine were struck with an illness that killed both of them while still in Westport (present-day Kansas City).
