Bio
Sylvia E. Foss, age 97 of Winner died Monday, August 20, 2007 at the Winner Nursing Home. Sylvia was born on June 15, 1910 in rural Gregory County, SD; the second of 10 children born to Michael and Kathryn ( Frederick) Brozik. Sylvia grew up in the rural areas of Dixon, Carlock and Pleasant Valley in Gregory and Tripp Counties, SD. She graduated from the eighth grade of Pleasant Valley School. Sylvia married Dave C. Foss on June 28, 1932 in Tripp County. Two daughters were born to this union, Clara Jane, June 13, 1933 and Marion, September 2, 1934. Sylvia and Dave farmed in Tripp County in the Hamill, SD area until they retired and moved into Winner. Sylvia enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, sewing and an extension club in the Hamill area. She was an active member of the Methodist church, participating in the Ladies Aid and other activities. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren when they came to visit. She visited with everyone about them. She had treasured pictures of all of them to which she frequently referred. She is survived by her daughter, Marion Potter (Willard) of Warner, SD; 5 grandchildren: Joyce Beck (Dean), Glenood, MN; Lee Potter, (Darla) Cheyenne, WY; Reva Schreier (Allan), Belle Fourche, SD; Diann Drew (Don) Alexandria, MN and Bruce Potter (Laura), Hot Springs, SD 11 great-grandchildren, a sister Gladys McCafferty of Laguna Woods, CA, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter Clara Jane, her parents; four sisters and four brothers. Funeral services will be Friday, August 24 at the United Methodist Church in Winner with burial in the Winner Cemetery. Arrangements by Mason Funeral Home.
