Vonnie Mae Winchester Smith-Wiggington-McGowan , 96 years 1 month and 21 days of age, of Nancy, Kentucky, departed this life on Saturday, June 6th, 2020 at her home. Vonnie was born in Wayne County, Kentucky on Wednesday, April 16th, 1924, daughter of the late Bluford Shell Winchester and Frona Mae Decker Winchester. She loved to sew, quilt, and work with flowers. Vonnie was a good cook and passionate about taking care of people. Vonnie was survived by two daughters, Beverly (and Delbert) McGowan and Rhonda (and Richard) Carter; three grandchildren, Loretta Wimmer (and Rick), Rita Cox, and Sharon Baird (and Roger); nine great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; her favorite special cousin, Milburn (and Betty) Decker; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends who mourn her passing. Vonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Bluford Shell Winchester, who departed this life on July 18th, 1970 and Frona Mae Winchester, who departed this life on September 4th, 1972; three husbands, Arthur Edward "Ed" Smith Jr., who departed this life on August 6th, 1963, Arben Roe Wiggington, who departed this life on August 31st, 1978, and Arvis Carson McGowan, who departed this life on April 10th, 1991; two brothers, Robert Bluford Winchester, who departed this life on April 17th, 1945 and Leslie Ethard "Dick" Winchester, who departed this life on December 26th, 1998; and three sisters, Flora Elizabeth Wilson, who departed this life on February 10th, 1942, Rena Pearl Coomer, who departed this life on September 13th, 1996, and Hattie Stringer, who departed this life on February 3rd, 2008. Visitations were held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 11th, 2020 at the Southern Oaks Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 11th, 2020 in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Jacksonville Cemetery in Bourbon County, Kentucky.
