Bennie F. Lybrand, 82, of New Harmony, Texas passed away Monday, May 25, 2020 at his home. He was born April 28, 1938 in Lamesa, Texas to Horace Haskel and Virginia Marie Hilburn Lybrand., Bennie attended Texas Western, now the University of Texas at El Paso, from 1956 to 1960 on a football scholarship where he earned a Bachelor of Civil Engineering Degree. He worked throughout his life as a civil engineer and retired after thirty-five years of service with the Brannon Corporation in Tyler, Texas. He was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church in Tyler, Texas where he served as music director for twenty-seven years. He had lived in the New Harmony community for the past thirty-seven years. Bennie enjoyed visiting with people and was said to had never met a stranger. He loved his family dearly and particularly enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald Robert Lybrand. Survivors: wife of sixty-one years, Carole Lybrand; sons, Brian Keith Lybrand (Lydia) and Phillip Roland Lybrand (Jan); grandchildren, Aaron Lybrand (Amie), Joshua Lybrand (Taylor), Kaley Dean (Matthew), Kelsey Gonzales (J.W.), Kevin Lybrand (Betsy); great grandchildren, Abbie, Ava, Addison, Case and Alivia Lybrand, John, Nathan, and Abigail Dean. Funeral services were held at New Harmony Baptist Church on Saturday, May 30, 2020. Bro. Robbie Caldwell and Dr. Mike Smith officiated.
